When you first start a town in Animal Crossing (you do this with a new memory card), or you create a new character (you’re allowed four per town/card), you have to buy a house and earn money to pay for that house. This money goes to Tom Nook at Nook’s store. In the beginning, before gamers knew what the cheat codes were, we all had to plant fruit, pick fruit, and sell it to Tom Nook to earn money to pay off our houses. So if you’re asking why would you need an apple, that’s why. You dig a hole, throw the apple in, and if you’re lucky an apple tree grows.
Here’s another secret to the fruit and fruit trees. Each town has its own unique fruit. This fruit is the cheapest fruit and you’ll only ever get 100 bells for selling each piece of fruit to Tom Nook. However, you can travel between towns (memory cards) and take fruit in your pockets with you. Then you plant your fruit in a different town where it isn’t the native fruit and it sells for 500 bells per piece of fruit.

Bananas and coconuts are rare. You usually get them for running errands for townsfolk or from people who visit. Don’t sell them; plant trees with them.
Tell this code to Tom Nook and get a free apple.
